Introducing the new and improved Soft Pastel brushes – a result of diligent refinement and commitment to quality over the years. Now more realistic, higher resolution, and easier to use, these brushes offer an unprecedented pastel experience in the digital realm.

Our Soft Pastels now behave more like real pastels than ever before! You can press harder for dense pigment application or use a lighter touch for more delicate strokes, making your creations look and feel just like real pastel artwork. Our brushes now respond intuitively to the tilt and angle of your Apple Pencil, allowing you to blend and shape effortlessly, without even lifting your tool.

We've refined our collection to a carefully curated assortment of brushes, packed with features that allow you to add detail, shade, and texture to your artwork in real time. Say goodbye to the confusion of navigating through countless brushes. We've worked tirelessly to build natural behavior and versatility into these brushes, so you can focus less on the tools and more on your art!

Our enhanced Soft Pastels now include the following 21 premium brushes:

Pastel Detail: This versatile brush can be adjusted for tiny details or broad shading, perfect for adding fine lines, dots, or hairs. Its high resolution makes it a great shader alternative.

Pastel Shader: This pressure-sensitive brush can produce everything from fine speckles of shading to heavy opaque marks. Tilt your Apple Pencil to the side for a light shading effect, similar to shading with the side of a real pastel.

Chunky Shaper: Mimic the effect of a rolling pastel with this favorite. It creates block pastel marks and provides a softer look and lower opacity at lighter pressures, perfect for soft blending.

Dry Brush Blender: This handy brush is great for blending tones and adding wisps of clean, hair-like strokes. It's a digital equivalent of a traditional dry brush in soft pastel art.

Gritty Shader: Add a fine soft pastel texture over large areas with this wider brush. Its pressure sensitivity allows you to control the density of shading, making it ideal for adding texture and visual interest to large flat areas, and for blending multiple tones together.

Real Sampled Soft Pastel Marks: Now at a higher resolution, these 16 brushes are made with the highest quality Sennelier soft pastels. Use them to build your piece in layers and develop a rich, realistic texture, or add them at the end as accents to bring your artwork to life.

Let your creativity fly and create dynamic pastel artwork with the new and improved Soft Pastels from Tip Top Brushes. The greatest realism comes from combining these brushes in your unique way, so mix and match, and let your art tell its story.

Some general tips for these brushes:

  • Layering: Soft pastels are all about layering. Start with light colors and build up to darker ones. This is the opposite of watercolor where you would usually start with lighter colors. With soft pastels, you can always add lighter colors on top for highlights or to adjust the color balance.

  • Pressure Sensitivity: Use the pressure sensitivity to your advantage. Apply more pressure for bold, dense color, and use a lighter touch for softer, more delicate strokes. Experiment with different levels of pressure to achieve the desired effect.

  • Blending: Use the tilt function of your Apple Pencil to blend colors smoothly. This will help you to create a seamless transition between different shades and tones, similar to how you might blend watercolors.

  • Use Texture: Consider using a texture as a base layer to mimic the grain of real pastel paper. This will add an extra level of realism to your artwork.

  • Mix and Match Brushes: For an authentic pastel look, don't limit yourself to using just one type of brush. Use different brushes to create a variety of marks and textures. For example, you could start by blocking in general shapes and colors with the Pastel Shader, then add detail with the Pastel Detail brush, and finally blend and soften edges with the Dry Brush Blender.

  • Embrace Imperfection: Just like with watercolor, a truly authentic pastel look is all about embracing the unpredictable and the imperfect. Don't be afraid to let the colors and shapes blend and interact in unexpected ways. This will give your artwork a dynamic, organic feel that is characteristic of real soft pastel art.

  • Use Real Marks: Don't forget about the Real Marks brushes. These brushes are made from real soft pastel marks and can add a level of realism to your artwork that is hard to achieve with digital tools alone. Use them sparingly as a final touch to really sell the soft pastel look.

  • Experiment With Different Brush Modes: Every brush can be used as a regular brush, but also a smudging brush or an eraser! You can essentially turn this into a pack of 63 brushes in that way.

Procreate 5 is here, and its amazing! You can now install a LOT of brushes at once using the new Files app in iOS 11. We recommend backing up your purchase using an iCloud account (its free), or syncing them to Files with iTunes.

First things first... USE SAFARI on iPad!

Also make sure you open the link in the full Safari app (it must be Safari, no other browser will work), as the side-loaded one that gmail/other email apps use won’t work.

Note: Brush files end in *.brushset

Once you click the file name/download button, a blue arrow in a circle should appear in the top right corner of Safari. This is the "downloads" area. Tap this icon and you should see your download appear in a list like so:

Simply tap the file and it should automatically open in Procreate. Depending on if you've performed this before, it may ask you what you want to do with the file after tapping it, in which case you would simply find the Procreate icon and send it there.
