Introducing BALLPOINT PENS 2022 - A complete set of ballpoint pen brushes that allow you to effortlessly achieve a realistic ballpoint pen look in Procreate! every effort has gone into making sure these brushes mimic the way real ballpoint pens feel when you're using them.

We analyzed real strokes made with different ballpoint pens and were able to re-create the magic inside of Procreate! The brushes are pressure sensitive, and react in many different ways to speed and pressure. We also tossed in a few real scribble marks as a bonus :-), which can really save your forearms! We also sampled the included color palette based off a set of real Bic rollerball pens.

This collection is pretty much all you need if you're doing illustrations and want that "ball point pen look" :-) Not only that, but these work absolutely perfectly as lettering pens too! Particularly for a very fine script.

Everything in this set was designed for professional work, meaning the brushes were designed to work with a 4k document which is very high resolution. The stamps were scanned and prepared with the utmost care to preserve their quality, and we find them to be very realistic.

Ballpoint Pens 2022 comes with:

  • 10 Brushes
  • Color Palette sampled from rollerball pen ink

Ballpoint Smooth: This is what I consider the "main" brush of this set - its the most direct replica of a regular ballpoint pen, with a smooth even application and capable of very nice shading with a light touch, the exact same way you'd use a real pen.

Ballpoint Medium Dry: This brush is also very critical to this set, with a grittier, "crunchier" texture to it which you sometimes want.

Ballpoint Very Dry: I think of this brush as a broken line brush. I typically use a very light touch for when I want fine feather lines that break and start again. Very useful for hair, grass, etc.

Heavy Gel Pen: Not technically a ballpoint pen, but I always love using a white gel pen for highlights when using real ballpoints. This brush has a very slight water quality to it just like white gel pens! Good for big fat lines too, when you want to emphasize a line or add heavy shadow.

Stumble Shader Curves: This brush allows you to "paint in" a scumbled texture(I think of as stumbling your pen around) with a curvy quality to it. A bit pressure sensitive, and tuned to match the size of the liners.

Stumble Shader Hatch: Like the last brush, but this one has a straight line quality to it, why is why they pair so well! if you overlay one with the other you get a really rich and complex resulting texture.

Big Texture Stamp: This is a BIG scan of a big scribble. I like to use this by using the selection tool to select an area, and stamp it in to get lots of nice realistic curvy lines.

Directional Hatch: This follows the "azimuth" of your pen direction, so wherever you point your pen, the lines will point that way. Great for dropping in patches of line texture and shading.

Directional Scribble: Like the last one, but the mark has a scribbly look to it which complements nicely.

Speckled shader: This is a nice finishing touch brush, for adding a grungy/hand smeared look which improves realism. Also useful for adding subtle grey shading.

Procreate 5 is here, and its amazing! You can now install a LOT of brushes at once using the new Files app in iOS 11. We recommend backing up your purchase using an iCloud account (its free), or syncing them to Files with iTunes.

First things first... USE SAFARI on iPad!

Also make sure you open the link in the full Safari app (it must be Safari, no other browser will work), as the side-loaded one that gmail/other email apps use won’t work.

Note: Brush files end in *.brushset

Once you click the file name/download button, a blue arrow in a circle should appear in the top right corner of Safari. This is the "downloads" area. Tap this icon and you should see your download appear in a list like so:

Simply tap the file and it should automatically open in Procreate. Depending on if you've performed this before, it may ask you what you want to do with the file after tapping it, in which case you would simply find the Procreate icon and send it there.
