SKU: GRUNGE-2022

Introducing GRUNGE 2022 - an easy, multi-functional set of distress/grunge brushes made for "beating up" an illustration or photo, adding texture, suggesting detail, and often the final finishing touch that ties your artwork together. They also work great in with the smudge tool, as well as the new 3D painting features in Procreate 5.2+!

These brushes have been designed to be your go-to all purpose distressing tool. Packed with features like carefully tuned pressure response that allows you to paint in texture with precision across a wide dynamic range. Comprehensive yet efficient brushes cover a variety of purposes like speckles, scratches, scuffs, paint, and we've even a bonus paint roller brush from RULL 2022, which we found complements the grunge brushes perfectly!

These are an excellent tool for adding shadows - add a new layer, set it to soft light blend mode, and paint in really organic shading with dynamic tones and colors that fit your scene! You can also use these with photo retouching/photobashing to add a bit of texture/visual interest to a boring or flat area of color, switch to the smudge tool and pick a brush, and then you can "pull" color around in a really expressive and painterly way! These also work GREAT for making abstract and textural backgrounds. This is a real staple in our collection and the uses go on and on!

GRUNGE 2022 Includes:

  • Canvas Grunge: This adds a transparent smudgy texture that layers really well and also responds to pen pressure very well. This is a big one for texture!
  • Patchy Paint: This brush has a crisp, dry paint look too it. Useful with a small brush for painting in broken texture in tight areas, as well as large expressive strokes.
  • Fine Speckles: Fine small dots that increase in density and size with a heavy pen pressure, really nice and responsive brush for adding in touches of platter/dust.
  • Fatter Speckles: Similar to Fine Speckles but of a slightly different quality, a bit chunkier and tighter spread.
  • Scratches: This is a really crisp and crunchy full scratches texture you can paint in. Looks very natural and easy to control, adds a real beat up quality.
  • Chunky Scratches: This brush lets you drop in a patch of scratches, and with some pressure it can get pretty large, great for really well placed scratches.
  • Concrete: This one is a fairly dense but transparent swirling concrete texture that goes down nicely in layers, and also adds a grittiness.
  • Dumpster Wall: This one brings the rust and decay! I think of this one as kind of "nasty" and its useful for really aging things.
  • RULL FREE SAMPLE: This is the "Old Roller" brush from RULL 2022, we just thought it complemented this set so well! I often use it with the smudge tool to make photos more painterly, and also smearing different grunge textures together.

Procreate 5 is here, and its amazing! You can now install a LOT of brushes at once using the new Files app in iOS 11. We recommend backing up your purchase using an iCloud account (its free), or syncing them to Files with iTunes.

First things first... USE SAFARI on iPad!

Also make sure you open the link in the full Safari app (it must be Safari, no other browser will work), as the side-loaded one that gmail/other email apps use won’t work.

Note: Brush files end in *.brushset

Once you click the file name/download button, a blue arrow in a circle should appear in the top right corner of Safari. This is the "downloads" area. Tap this icon and you should see your download appear in a list like so:

Simply tap the file and it should automatically open in Procreate. Depending on if you've performed this before, it may ask you what you want to do with the file after tapping it, in which case you would simply find the Procreate icon and send it there.
