Introducing MARKERS 2020 - Incredibly realistic alcohol marker brushes developed for Procreate 5.

With new render modes in P5 you can get actual build up of "pigment" that is preserved even as you color over it, just like with real alcohol markers. As you scribble, notice how it’s not just a flat wash of color, it’s streaky and dynamic. We made brand new seamless grain textures sampled from real Copic markers on RENDR paper that is absolutely lifelike. Even the tips are matched to the size of our Copic markers at default screen size. They also blend and layer more realistically, with a carefully calibrated flow/opacity that works with the new render modes.

We’ve also focused on packing more flexibility into a single brush for really dynamic mark making, so for example you can put down a hard-edge chisel tip scribble, and without even lifting the pen blend it out with tilt as pictured below. if you use real alcohol markers these will feel extremely familiar!

Brush makers for Procreate often design one brush, then iterate a few dozen incredibly mild/useless variations to pad the brush count to make it feel like a better value. To that, we say NO MORE!

We've heard from our customers again-and-again that they're getting bogged down in hundreds of brushes, interrupting the creative process. We aim to program as much versatility and dynamic mark-making into each and every brush as possible, so that they feel like true professional artist tools you can get to know and learn their nuances.

To that end, MARKERS 2020 Includes x3 SUPER dynamic and efficient Brushes:

  • Markers 2020 Brush Tip: Alcohol markers like Copic have tips on both ends - Markers 2020 is no exception! This brush tip is capable of producing fine lines, but apply more pressure and you can get nice blobby round shapes with intense edges.
  • Markers 2020 Chisel Tip: Our favorite of the set - capable of producing classic big chunky markers but really dynamic and beautiful shapes as well. The chisel-shaped tip orients to your Apple Pencil, so its easiest to imagine you're holding a real chisel tipped marker. They'll behave the same!
  • Paper Texture (use white on top layer): Sometimes you don't want the full "authentic marker experience" and you just want to apply or enhance the texture effect. You can use this brush on almost anything! Just create a layer on top all others, set the color to white, and you can selectively paint in authentic sampled marker paper speckles! I use it in my daily graphic design projects just for adding a bit of noise/grit to almost anything.

Some general tips for these brushes:

  • Every time you lift the pen, you will essentially create a "new layer" of pigment that will be darker (there is a built in "multiply" blend mode), so its good to use really light and bright colors, and build up darkness with layers of pigment.
  • The colors will mix and combine as you layer them, so its helpful to think in CMYK mode - for example with the provided color palette if you wanted a purple, you would layer the pink and blue. This goes a long way towards looking like realistic marker!
  • The chisel tip orients to your pen so you can make really dynamic marks if you're careful. Experiment with holding your Apple Pencil in new ways to get the most out of this feature! Pull it down towards you for straight thin lines, and twist/rotate the pen to achieve unique painterly forms.
  • If you tilt it really low they turn soft and you can blend out a hard stroke without even lifting the pen.

Procreate 5 is here, and its amazing! You can now install a LOT of brushes at once using the new Files app in iOS 11. We recommend backing up your purchase using an iCloud account (its free), or syncing them to Files with iTunes.

First things first... USE SAFARI on iPad!

Also make sure you open the link in the full Safari app (it must be Safari, no other browser will work), as the side-loaded one that gmail/other email apps use won’t work.

Note: Brush files end in *.brushset

Once you click the file name/download button, a blue arrow in a circle should appear in the top right corner of Safari. This is the "downloads" area. Tap this icon and you should see your download appear in a list like so:

Simply tap the file and it should automatically open in Procreate. Depending on if you've performed this before, it may ask you what you want to do with the file after tapping it, in which case you would simply find the Procreate icon and send it there.
