Introducing the totally reimagined Ink Wash 2022! This is a fun, intuitive and easy-to-use complete set of brushes for pulling off almost any ink wash effect you'd desire.

Based on original high-resolution scans, the source paintings were made with authentic artist-quality ink on 100% cotton, 300 LB hot press Arches watercolor paper. These brushes are rendered at the absolute highest quality possible in the Procreate brush engine. The poster art was produced at 6k resolution and the stamp brushes are still very large that that scale.

This set was designed for painting with dark colors but also works equally as well for light! We find it best to build up the texture in multiple layers switching back and forth between different kinds of brushes, as well as dark/grey/light tones.

The brushes:

  • Block In Brush - A very versatile streaky bristle brush, that paints with a sumi brush look. Useful for blocking in shapes to later refine with other brushes, and can be used as a finishing brush as well for bold expressive strokes.
  • Bleeding Liner - Extremely expressive water ink liner brush. I like this brush for fine lines that I want to pop, like a telephone wire or blades of grass. Also great for adding a strong edge.
  • Dry Bristles Texture - This is a fantastic painting brush, it reminds me of an acrylic brush that's a little dry. The strokes preserve their character as you brush over them and blend together nicely.
  • Dry Bristles Solid - This is a version of Dry Bristles that is very solid and opaque, which sometimes you need with ink wash painting. Fully back bold strokes.
  • Watery Liquifier - A watery round brush that can be used to gently layer in areas of watery darkness or light. Can also be used with the smudge tool to wash out/blend areas.
  • Watery Liquifier Dark - Similar to Watery Liquifier, but this has more bold edges and heavier application.
  • Gritty Shader - A soft edged, pressure sensitive shader thats very gritty and good for adding a dry rub grungy look.
  • Gritty Shader 2 - A much softer watery version of Gritty Shader, I like using it as a generic shader for areas I like to be a bit watery.
  • Fat Speckles Shader - A light application gritty shader with larger speckles, has a worn/dirty paper effect, useful for suggesting an old piece of paper, but also just texture in general.
  • Fine Speckles Shader - Similar to Fat Speckles, but much finer.
  • Water Lines Shader - This one is really cool, I like to set it to white and add little touches here and there to add watery washed out spots.
  • Water Lines 2 - A more horizontal-skewed water line shader, which does especially well with dark tones for adding interesting shadow textures.
  • Foggy Shader 1 - A subtle but realistic paper texture shader useful for adding speckled light or dark spots to flat areas, to imply some physical paper wear. Blends layers together nicely.
  • Foggy Shader 2 - A much finer shader good for substracting tones with white or adding subtle shadow with dark tones.
  • Stamp Shaders - There are 6 stamp brushes you can either "paint" with to create original custom shapes, or you can tap them in at a large size on a new layer and manually position them exactly how you like, for immediate boost in realism!

Procreate 5 is here, and its amazing! You can now install a LOT of brushes at once using the new Files app in iOS 11. We recommend backing up your purchase using an iCloud account (its free), or syncing them to Files with iTunes.

First things first... USE SAFARI on iPad!

Also make sure you open the link in the full Safari app (it must be Safari, no other browser will work), as the side-loaded one that gmail/other email apps use won’t work.

Note: Brush files end in *.brushset

Once you click the file name/download button, a blue arrow in a circle should appear in the top right corner of Safari. This is the "downloads" area. Tap this icon and you should see your download appear in a list like so:

Simply tap the file and it should automatically open in Procreate. Depending on if you've performed this before, it may ask you what you want to do with the file after tapping it, in which case you would simply find the Procreate icon and send it there.
